Keith J Connell, MBA, PhD Candidate

Organisations today face significant disruption driven by emerging technologies, changing workforce expectations, evolving customer behaviours, and increasing competitive pressures. Through my work as a professor in Digital Content Creation and Strategy, Big Data and Business at Georgian College, I help leaders understand how data analytics, marketing, digital strategy, communication, accessibility, entrepreneurship, and project management can be leveraged to navigate uncertainty and build organisational resilience.

My PhD research in Leadership and Policy, combined with an MBA in Leadership and Innovation and more than thirty years of professional marketing experience, provides a unique perspective on how organisations adapt and thrive during periods of transformation. By combining evidence-based research with practical business experience, I help leaders identify emerging trends, evaluate strategic opportunities, manage change initiatives, and align people, processes, and technology with organisational goals.

A significant focus of my research examines why individuals persist, disengage, or leave institutions. While this work is grounded in higher education, the underlying principles apply directly to today's workplace. Understanding the factors that influence engagement, belonging, motivation, and retention provides valuable insight into employee experience, organisational culture, and leadership effectiveness. These insights help organisations reduce attrition, strengthen workforce engagement, support successful change initiatives, and create environments where people are prepared to adapt, innovate, and succeed in an increasingly complex world.

Change Readiness Is Not a Slogan. It Is a Practice.

I believe organisations navigate disruption most effectively when they prepare people for the realities of change rather than the comfort of the status quo. Whether the challenge is artificial intelligence, digital transformation, workforce evolution, or changing customer expectations, sustainable success comes from developing the capacity to adapt, learn, and respond strategically.

My work focuses on helping leaders understand the relationship between technology, people, and organisational performance. While many organisations view digital transformation as a technology initiative, the most successful transformations occur when leaders address culture, communication, engagement, and capability development alongside technological change. By combining leadership research, business strategy, and more than thirty years of professional experience, I help organisations build resilience, strengthen decision-making, and prepare their workforce for an increasingly digital future.

At the centre of my philosophy is the belief that technology alone does not create competitive advantage. People do. Organisations that invest in strategic thinking, adaptability, communication, and digital literacy are better positioned to navigate uncertainty, embrace innovation, and thrive in an environment of continuous change.

Consulting, Strategy, Learning, and Change.

A significant part of my work focuses on understanding what keeps people engaged, motivated, and committed to achieving their goals. Through the development of The College Prof, a universal design for learning platform, I have spent years studying how individuals interact with information, what causes disengagement, and what interventions encourage persistence and success. By removing barriers, providing multiple pathways to learning, and creating opportunities for continuous feedback and support, I apply evidence-based strategies that improve engagement and encourage long-term commitment.

The lessons learned through this work extend well beyond education. Many of the factors that cause students to disengage are similar to those that contribute to employee attrition, quiet quitting, ineffective onboarding, and poor workplace mentoring. People are more likely to disengage when expectations are unclear, support systems are weak, feedback is inconsistent, or they struggle to see value in the work they are being asked to do. By understanding the drivers of engagement and persistence, I help organisations create environments where employees feel connected, supported, and equipped to succeed.

My work in content creation, digital strategy, and technology development reinforces this perspective. Whether designing learning experiences, communication strategies, or workplace initiatives, I focus on creating systems that encourage participation, reinforce desired behaviours, and support continuous development. I believe organisations thrive when they invest in meaningful training, effective mentoring, and clear communication that helps people understand not only what they are expected to do, but why their contribution matters. In an era of rapid technological change and workforce transformation, these human-centred approaches are essential for reducing turnover, strengthening organisational culture, and building teams that remain engaged, adaptable, and resilient.

NAVIGATING THE FUTURE OF WORK

How Do You Prepare Your People for What's Next?

LET'S TALK STRATEGY

Three Decades Focused on People, Performance, and Change

The Future Won't Wait

Emerging technologies are reshaping every industry. The challenge is ensuring that your people, culture, and organisation can adapt quickly enough to remain competitive.

People Drive Results

Uncertainty creates pressure, but leadership determines results. Organisations succeed when people understand the direction, trust the process, and embrace change.

Change Is Personal

My research and professional experience focus on understanding why people engage, disengage, adapt, and persist during periods of significant change.

The Challenge Isn't Emerging Technology

Emerging technology is changing faster than many organisations can adapt. Artificial intelligence, evolving workforce expectations, and shifting business models are forcing leaders to make decisions in environments that are increasingly complex and uncertain. The challenge is not simply adopting new technologies. The challenge is helping people understand, accept, and successfully adapt to change.

For more than three decades, I have observed a simple reality: organisational change succeeds or fails based on how people respond to it. My work and research have focused on understanding those responses and helping people navigate them successfully.

My research examines why people engage, disengage, persist, adapt, or leave during periods of significant change. Combined with more than thirty years of professional experience, these insights provide a practical foundation for leading organisational transformation. Whether the objective is improving workforce readiness, strengthening leadership capacity, navigating technological disruption, or preparing for the future of work, my focus is on helping organisations move from uncertainty to action with confidence.

“Mentorship is not about making the path easy. It is about helping people believe they can walk it.”

The Coffee Is On Me

Organisational change succeeds or fails based on how people respond to it. That reality has shaped my career, my research, and my leadership philosophy.
